Bernie Sanders beats Hillary Clinton in Alaska, Washington, Hawaii contests

 

Bernie Sanders, the Democratic Party contestant easily won Democratic nominating contests in Alaska, Washington and Hawaii to pick the party’s candidate for the White House.

The big win generated new momentum for Sanders who until yesterday was trailing Hillary Clinton by a huge margin.

US news networks showed Sanders winning by wide margins in Saturday’s caucus votes in all three western states, resurrecting his hope for the white house race.

In Washington, Mr Sanders won with an estimated 72.1 per cent, against 27.7 for Mrs Clinton.Sanders also won in Hawaii, where 71 per cent of Democratic caucus-goers supported his candidature.Only 29 per cent of them supported Mrs Clinton in the state.

In Alaska, Mr Sanders’ margin of victory was 79.2 percent, against 20.8 percent for Mrs Clinton
