Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan escaped death by a whisker today when a gang intercepted their convoy and tried to attack the former president.
The men who were driving a small car trailed Jonathan’s motorcade from Julius Berger bridge area of the state capital Yenagoa to the entrance of the Yenagoa private residence of the former President in the Kpansia area.
When Jonathan’s men realized they were being trailed, they raised alarm. Police rushed to the scene and arrested the gang.
The attackers, who are believed to be members of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, are in police custody. Jonathan is safe in his residence.
Police are questioning the men to determine their motive and establish the whereabouts of other group members.
Jonathan, who lost to President Muhammadu Buhari,has been leading a quiet life since his exit from active politics.
