There are several single rooms, bedsitter, one bedroom and two bedroom houses near Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) where students can rent cheaply.
Though JKUAT administration offers houses in university hostels, the number of rooms is not enough to accommodate all the students. Students are therefore encouraged to look for rooms outside the university.
Most students either go for single rooms or bedsitters because they are affordable.
This article is aimed at shedding light on the cost of rooms around JKUAT and the easiest ways to get one.
If you intend to join college in January or September, make sure you visit the area one month earlier so that you can get available apartments where you can live. The scramble for rooms is usually high. You can as well get a room from companies advertising for apartments online. Such companies include Lamudi Properties and Ryden.
The costs of the houses vary depending of the landlord, but a single room ranges from Sh 2,500-Sh 4,000 while a bedsitter ranges from Sh 4,500 to 7,500.
Normally, the land lord requires you to pay a deposit equivalent to one month salary.
