Watchmen/security guards are people who guard people’s property. There are several available jobs for security guards in the country, especially after the entry of renowned security companies like G4S, BM, KK and Well Fargo.
The jobs are mostly found in big towns like Mombasa, Kisumu, Nairobi, Nakuru, Thika and Kericho, but you can be employed in small towns as well.
To be a security officer/watchman in Kenya you only need a primary or secondary certificate and a certificate of good conduct from CID.
Once you have the documents, you can apply for employment to renowned security firms. Note that the companies don’t have specific time for employment-they employ as job vacancies arise.
The best way to get a job in these firms is to make blind application. Blind application is that one you make without being told to apply through an advert.
Now, when it comes to salaries, G4S emerges as the best paying company, followed by BM security, Wells Fargo, and KK security. The starting salary for watchmen at KK security is usually Ksh 14,000 but can be increased with time.Other firms pay an average monthly salary of Ksh 10,000.
What I can warn you against is working for small security companies. We have established majority of local security companies pay as little as Ksh 6,000 per month, which is not enough to feed you.
