Kobe Bryant announced on Sunday that he will down his tools this year after having a successful career, emerging as one of the greatest basket players in NBA history.
The LA Lakers player shocked fans as well as his teammates when he presented a well composed poem, dedicated to his team mates, fans and his family.
“this season is all I have left to give
My body knows it’s time to say goodbye
Dear Basketball”, reads the poem in parts
The 37-year-old spent his entire 20-season career with the Lakers, becoming the first player to stay at the team for such long period.
He managed to win two Olympic gold medal squads. He also averaged 25.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.5 steals over 1,280 games with LA Lakers.
During an emotional event on Sunday, the legend concluded with the following words:
“We both know, no matter what I do next, I’ll always be that kid, With the rolled up socks, Garbage can in the corner, :05 seconds on the clock, Ball in my hands.
“5 4 3 2 1. Love you always, Kobe”
The NBA player separated with wife,Vanessa, in 2013 but later called off their divorce after settling differences out of court.
