How To Prevent Your Mouth From Smelling

Smelling mount is irritating, especially if you are in a car with a crowd and then you open your stinking mouth, even your trusted friends can run for their dear life. But there are many ways you can prevent your dear mouth from stinking-if you do the following, you will say bye to smelly mouth.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

A dentist is one person who can spot where there is a problem whenever you feel like your mouth is smelling. It is always advisable to visit your dentist so that he can advise you on how to maintain hygiene as well as ensure your mouth does not smell.

Don’t Smoke Cigarette

Cigarettes are the main cause of bad smell, not only your mouth but also your body. If you want your mouth to smell good, please avoid smoking cigarettes. Also, you should be aware that cigarettes cause cancer and many other chronic diseases.

Chew sugarless gum that contains xylitol

If you are in a place where talking is not accepted, you should always carry chewing gum that contains xylitol. The gum should not have sugar (sugar can result to loss of teeth).

In fact, when you are travelling, in class or in a crowded area where talking is less and listening is more, carry chewing gum.

Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash that contains a zinc compound

Zinc compound is important for your mounth since it kills sulphur compunds, which are the main cause of bad smell. It is advisable to rinse your mouth with baking soda, which contains zinc so as to kill bacteria in your mouth.

Dr. Glassman suggests opting for a mouthwash without alcohol or even creating your own at home using 1 tablespoon baking soda poured into 1 cup warm water with a few drops of essential peppermint oil. “The baking soda is antibacterial, there isn’t any alcohol it in, and it can help freshen your breath in a pinch if you run out of mouthwash,” she says.

“It’s also important to pick up an alcohol-free mouthwash with a zinc compound in it, since zinc kills the volatile sulphur compounds,” Dr. Jablow says. She recommends from her oral care product line Intelliwhite IntelliFresh Oral Rinse Fusion, which also contains peroxide that kills the bacteria that sits under the gum line.

Clean Your Tongue At least Twice a Day

Many people clean their mouth and forget to clean the tongue, forgetting that bacteria which cause bad smell can be comfortably sitting on your tongue. You are advised to thoroughly clean your tongue at least twice a day so as to wipe out dirt and bacteria.

Clean your Mouth and brush your teeth.

Cleaning your mouth is one of the best ways to prevent your mouth from smelling. After every meal, ensure you clean your mouth with plenty of water and Colgate or any other tooth paste which contain calcium. Also ensure you brush your tooth with a clean tooth brush at least twice a day.

Chew on fresh mint leaves

When you chew fresh mint leaves, you allow your body to smell fresh all the time. This helps especially when you close your mouth for a long time, preventing fresh air to enter your mouth, and smelly air to leave.

The mint will help freshen your breath and up your greens intake, and the parsley contains chlorophyll, Dr. Jablow says, which works against the creation of volatile sulphur compounds, aka the rotten egg smell (caused by hydrogen sulfide) and the barnyard smell (caused by methyl mercaptan).

Drink less coffee

Coffee can cause bad smell especially if it’s consumed in large quantities, which is why you are advised to drink less of it but drink more of green juice. Green juice contains low levels of acid, which means less acid in your mouth and less bad smell.

Snack on more apples or any other crunchy, healthy foods.

The hard texture of apples, celery, carrots, etc., can remove food caught between your teeth and rub away bacteria that sit on them, creating that “sweater” feeling when you run your tongue over your teeth. Hard, crunchy foods act like a natural toothbrush.

Eat a low-carb diet balanced with fats and proteins.

Fatty foods break down and create ketones, a byproduct of fat that sits in your stomach and ferments; the odor of ketones then come back up through your esophagus and can stick to your tongue. That’s why it’s important to add healthy carbs like broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes, and fresh fruits into your diet, which balance out the fats and promote better breath.

Bad mouth smell can be really embarrassing, it can prevent you from having a free conversation with another person, or prevent you from free expression. It is good to always keep your mouth clean to avoid embarrassing situations.
